Sustainability and style

A shades-wearing red tiger is the striking image that greets you as you approach this hotel.

It’s a bold statement fitting of a bold hotel that blends the tiger mascot of its town, Olkern, with the branding of the hotel chain Radisson RED.

If you’re looking for a business hotel that takes sustainability seriously– but also has its own style and WOW factor points - this is it.

The Radisson RED Oslo Økern is not just a fashionable, cool creative sustainable space, it is part of a sustainability-focused business area which includes Northern Europe’s biggest rooftop garden where herbs and vegetables are grown and used by the hotel and wider area’s restaurants. The area also has its own ‘energy well’ which produces 90% of the heating for the entire development.

This is the second RED property that Radisson has opened in Norway in the last few months. The first one was the Radisson RED Oslo Airport which opened earlier this year.

Its appeal is ample. Its location is just 15 minutes from Oslo Central Station and atop its twelfth floor is a terrace bar with impressive city panorama. At the weekends the mood shifts and a DJ takes up residence as punters enjoy drinks, food and views.

Lucky for some, there are thirteen meeting rooms, the largest of which seats 120 guests and is on the top floor. There are 204 guest rooms.

An ‘Excellent’ rating has been awarded to the hotel from BREEAM, one of the world’s leading science-based systems that determines the sustainability of buildings. The hotel also has an ‘A class’ energy rating, meaning its energy level will not exceed 140 Kwh/sqm, and it uses rainfall catchers to water its rooftop garden.

General Manager of Radisson RED Oslo Økern, Jørgen Holte, comments: “I am proud to open this exciting new hotel concept in Oslo. We know sustainability is a key focus for travellers today and we are always looking to develop innovative hotel experiences. Radisson RED Oslo Økern combines sustainability initiatives, Radisson Hotel Group’s Yes I Can! Service, and Radisson RED’s playful twist on the conventional, which we are sure guests will enjoy.”
