A Chance to Blossom

Lombard Odier’s Events Manger Sarah-Jane Ind enjoys networking at our BNC Shows as it also gives her the chance to introduce her mum’s business, Pimlico Flowers, to fellow eventprofs

My mum, Susie Ind, set up her business in 1986 - just after she had me. She began by distributing leaflets and within a few days she had her first contract - supplying window boxes to a private residence off of Sloane Square. They continue to be her client 34 years on.

Originally Pimlico Flowers created small London gardens/ window boxes and hanging baskets for clients but mum discovered there was a greater demand for corporate events as well as weddings and cut flowers.

Now there are over 30 regular clients such, many of whom are very high profile organisations and venues, as well as churches, schools and different companies. Mum uses her creativity to look at each venue individually and knows how to make the place look beautiful and unique with an abundance of colour.

I have always enjoyed doing the PR for Pimlico Flowers in my spare time. I post on Instagram and recommend her at networking events - this just comes naturally to me. My mother is very much the floral designer and one day I hope to be as good as she is!

What makes a good event florist is having an excellent understanding and feel of what the client is looking for and then matching this with the style of the venue; guiding and advising a client if they are not sure of what they want or what would work. Mum is very talented at this and it is wonderful to watch her in action – she makes it all look so easy.

The BNC Event Shows became an opportunity for me to not only network for myself but also for my mum and it has helped us to grow our contact list. When we took a stand in summer 2018 fellow event professionals said how beautiful and eye catching it was and they loved the fact that we were mother and daughter, working as a team.

I love the fact that BNC Event Shows is a family-run business that has a high calibre of companies exhibiting. I really enjoyed being on the stand and telling people the Pimlico Flowers story. Such a proud moment for me and my mum.
