From Fire Engine to Flight Club: A Journey of Courage, Community, and Charity
In 2010, a group of friends set out on a mission that seemed almost impossible: to drive a fire engine around the world in memory of Steve Moore’s father, Garth, who had spent 33 years serving as a firefighter at Wimborne Fire Station in Dorset.
That mission—Follow That Fire Engine—took them 50,956 km across 5 continents, through 28 countries in 275 days.
Along the way, Steve, Paul, Ross, and their loyal crew faced grueling terrains, inhospitable conditions, and extreme temperatures. With grit, courage, and the unwavering support of friends and experts who joined along the route, they successfully circumnavigated the globe in their beloved fire engine, Martha.
The outcome was nothing short of extraordinary:
A Guinness World Record
£120,000 raised for three incredible charities (Macmillan Cancer Support, The Fire Fighters Charity, and The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation)
A lifelong reminder of the power of community, perseverance, and friendship.
That expedition not only honoured Garth Moore’s memory but also laid the foundations of who they are today at Red Engine, the team behind Flight Club and Electric Shuffle—brands built around bringing people together for unforgettable moments of joy.
A New World Record Event and Charity Tour
This year marks 10 years of Flight Club, and to celebrate, they're returning to their roots in the best way they know how: with friends, fun, and fundraising.
On 1st and 2nd October, they'll be hosting a two-day charity event at Clerkenwell Fire Station, the perfect symbolic venue to connect past and present. The celebration will feature:
DJs, food, and drinks
A world record attempt for the longest bullseye thrown – with roll-up slots so anyone can take their shot!
A chance to win a £1000 bar tab if you hit the record
Most importantly, an opportunity to give back, with all proceeds supporting the Yellow Ball Foundation, which funds 18 local and 3 national charities.
They are also embarking upon a nationwide darts tournament at their Flight Club locations in 12 UK cities. Teams of five are invited along to book tickets of £250 which includes a welcome drink, bottomless pizza, prizes and treats, plus a chance to win a £1000 experience in one of their venues. This is all taking place between 3rd – 21st October. There will be 13 back-to-back charity tournaments in location with all proceeds going to the Yellow Ball Foundation.
Why It Matters
The courage, perseverance, and togetherness that defined Follow That Fire Engine continues to guide Red Engine today and its new mission with the Yellow Ball Foundation, which carries on the legacy whether that be rallying behind a world record attempt or creating joyful spaces for friends to connect of bringing people together to make a positive impact.
The team is inviting people to be part of this special milestone, as they raise a glass, throw some darts, and continue a legacy of turning ambitious challenges into meaningful change.
